Characteristics of Great Inventors

Much as birds of the same feather flock together, great inventors often share a host of key characteristics that stand them out from the multitude, in their respective industries.
Often times, a great idea or a brilliant mind is seldom enough to make a successful invention. Along with their intellectual proficiencies, successful and great inventors are characterized by personal traits which help them get out of inevitable problems and challenges they are bound to encounter on their invention journey, culminating in the creation of new inventions.

Here are seven important characteristics that set great inventors apart:

Patience

For an inventor, patience is paramount. For great inventors, patience is second nature! Patience is paramount to research for, and assess solutions during the invention process. It is also a key factor in the assessment of the advantages and disadvantages inherent in each major invention decision. Simply put, this characteristic determines who ends up being successful and great, or otherwise, at the end of the invention process.

Optimism

The greatest inventors have very optimistic attitudes. Even when situations and events are not going their way, they are not known to lose hope or become pessimistic. They keep the positive hope that they will be successful in the pursuit of their invention in spite of all setbacks and obstacles. Apart from this, even when their invention does not initially receive a positive feedback, they are not deterred, maintaining a positive attitude, and ultimately achieving grand success.

Passion

This is one of the key characteristics which drive great inventors. The passion to break new barriers, create new useful materials, and continue to innovate, can be considered as one of the halos that sits atop the heads of great inventors. Naturally, invention feeds on passion. It is a driving force to keep seeking and driving towards achieving a set goal. The greatest inventors who have succeeded immensely in their fields have always shown undeterred passion towards the actualization of their goals and invention dreams.

Persistence

Great inventors know that if you keep hammering on the same spot consistently, often times, you end up getting what you seek. Being persistent is another hallmark of the greatest and the most successful inventors. They never give up, even in the face of opposition or failure.

Understanding Needs

A great invention is one which satisfies a specific need of a specific group of people. An invention is useless if it does not satisfy the needs of the people for whom it was intended. Hence, the greatest inventors have always known and understood the specific needs of their target market.

Unwavering Belief

All the greatest inventors of yesteryears and those making waves in the current clime all have one characteristic in common – a very strong belief and faith. The greatest inventors do not only have a strong belief in their own ability, but they also hold an unwavering faith in the success of their process and invention. Even in the toughest of situations, this faith and belief keep them grounded and guided.

Competitiveness

Competition has been one of the greatest anvil and hammer which has helped shape the most successful inventors from time immemorial. The greatest inventors are competitive, seeking new ways to trump the competition, and bettering themselves in the process.
